Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT

Fraunhofer IPT develops system solutions for manufacturing companies. The focus of the Institute lies in the areas of process technology, production machines, mechatronics, production metrology and quality as well as technology management.

Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of the RWTH Aachen University

Across the world and for many decades now the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of the RWTH Aachen University has stood for successful and forward-thinking research and innovation in the area of production engineering. In six different work areas, research activities not only relate to fundamental theories and findings but also to the application of findings in an industrial context.

INC Invention Center

The Invention Center at the RWTH Aachen Campus is a place in which the participating companies can qualify and upgrade in the field of technology and innovation management. Furthermore, at the INC they are able to find optimal solutions to their tasks. In cooperation with the TIME Research Area, the Fraunhofer IPT, the WZL and the KEX Knowledge Exchange AG a "world of experience" is being created, in which future planners and decision makers from the industry will be able to experience the whole innovation process – from the initial concept development right through to the manufacturing of products that are ready to go into production.

Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT

Fraunhofer ILT is among the most important research institutes in the field of laser development and laser applications. Its core competencies include the solid state lasers, diode lasers, laser optics, laser cutting, laser welding, surface treatment, micro technology, laser measurement and testing technology, plasma technology, modeling and simulation as well as system technology.

ACAM Aachen Center for Additive Manufacturing

The ACAM GmbH pools the expertise of the RWTH Aachen University, the Fraunhofer ILT, the Fraunhofer IPT and the KEX Knowledge Exchange AG and the Technical College of Aachen. The coordination of interdisciplinary research projects, education and training are the key aspects of ACAM. Matriculated partners from different industries are given the opportunity to participate in bilateral and consortial research and consulting projects and to obtain a comprehensive overview of the state of the art regarding additive manufacturing processes along the entire production chain.

TIME Research Area: Technology, Innovation, Marketing & Entrepreneurship

The TIME Research Area was established at the RWTH Aachen in 2012. The Research Area is composed of different chairs and professorships. Together they pursue an ambitious teaching and research program with a clear focus on the design, development and commercialization of technological innovations. This not only combines elements of economic and business research, but also tries to build bridges to the engineering and natural sciences.

PEM Chair of Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components

PEM stands for pioneering research and innovation in the thematic area of electro mobility. Within five research areas they engage in developing production processes of the electric vehicle and its components. IIF is the only institute in Germany which occupies areas of research in the fields of industry communication and specialist media. It combines three disciplines: engineering sciences, economics and communication science. The Institute considers the efficient use of knowledge in business as essential for innovation and competitive advantage.

DFA Demonstration Factory

The Demonstration Factory is the key part of the Cluster Logistics at RWTH Aachen Campus Melaten. The main objective of the Demonstration Factory is the establishment of a close interaction between practice, research and training. On the one hand, the DFA offers cover the production of prototypes and intermediate products. On the other hand, its infrastructure provides the unique possibility to investigate questions in the field of production systematics in a real production environment.
